Refurbishment of Desalination Plant and Feasibility Study for new Concepts

The Ras Lanuf Oil & Gas Processing Company RASCO, a subsidiary of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), is in charge of operation of “Ras Lanuf Refinery (RLR)”, a topping and reforming oil refinery in the city of Rā's Lānūf, Libya. The demand of the RLR on process and boiler feed water is covered by several desalination plants sited at the refinery. One of these desalination plants was suffering from several technical problems with the vacuum system as well as the pipes, reducing the capacity of the plant to 75% and making a refurbishment necessary. In addition to the analysis of the existing deficiencies and to ensure that the plant would be fully operational again, new concepts for the desalination at RASCO had to be developed in order to guarantee the secure supply of the powerplant with process water amid increasing demands.
