Feasibility study for the expansion of water management in Beeckerwerth

On the plant site in Duisburg Beeckerwerth thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG operates a central water management system to supply cooling water to the hot strip mill II and steel finishing operations. Due to conversion and expansion measures in recent years, the demand for cooling water at the plant has increased so that the capacity of the existing water management system is fully utilized. Even with expansion of production capacity and changes in the product mix, an optimum supply of cooling water is absolutely essential. In the future, too, it must be ensured by cooling towers and purification plants. In a basic assessment, the requirements for the water balance were determined and implementation options for the expansion of water management were considered, which take into account the future hydraulic and energetic cooling water requirements. The 3D scan made possible a suitable planning of additional facilities under the site-specific conditions.
