Guidelines for the Planning and Management of Sea- and Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants in Jordan

Desalination of seawater and brackish water is essential in Jordan to meet the freshwater demand. In this context, the ‘Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH’ (GIZ) supports the departments responsible for desalination at MWI and WAJ in the extension of competencies for the management of desalination projects.

STEP developed guidelines for the systematic planning and management of desalination plants tailored to the situation in Jordan. Systematic procedures were developed individually for large-scale seawater and decentralized brackish water desalination plants. Within the project, we conducted a workshop at the Dead Sea presenting the planning and management guidelines with around 60 participants. The content of the guidelines was presented with interactive elements and exercises with the participants.
